When purchasing a new home, it is doubtful an individual can actually pay cash up front for their home. Many, if not all, individuals have to consult a bank to get a loan to own a home. Most loans offer competitive interest rates, which are more or less extra money added to the purchase price of the home for the benefit of being able to borrow from a bank.
Interest rates can be fixed or variable, which means either one pays a set interest rate or one will pay an interest rate that varies, based on the Federal Reserve.
